This past October, Haverhill VFW post 29 participated in the national VFW essay competition entitled “Patriot’s Pen”. The contest was open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with a theme of “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country”. I submitted an essay that included some of the things I’ve been able to participate in as a Scout, and how scouting has allowed me to show patriotism. I was selected as a prize winner and that money is going straight into my WSJ fund!
